‘Gravity’ Dominates at the Box Office for Second Week

It looks as if Alfonso Cuarón’s interstellar space epic Gravity has some real staying power at the box office.

For the second week in a row, the film starring Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock has come in on top at the box office this weekend with $44.3 million.

Behind that is Director Paul Greengrass’ film Captain Phillips, starring Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as the real-life Captain Richard Phillips, captain of the MV Maersk Alabama; the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in nearly two hundred years. Captain Phillips came in at an estimated $26 million.

Behind that is Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, the sequel to the 2009 film by the same name. The children’s movie starring the voice talents of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Neil Patrick Harris, and more came in at an estimated $14.2 milliion.
