Nene stays behind in Brazil for personal reasons

Nene and the Washington Wizards played a preseason game in his native country of Brazil, but he didn’t return with the team on Monday. Nene has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but according to CSN Washington, he is staying back for a personal reason:

And it has nothing to do with the oft-injured 7-footer’s health.

“He’s got some family, personal matter to take care of. He won’t be here tomorrow night,” Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. “He’ll be back Wednesday.”

It’s good that he will be back with the team in 2 days, but let’s all hope this is nothing too serious. With professional athletes being in the spotlight, it can make it difficult for them to deal with personal problems internally. We shouldn’t assume anything, and it’s frankly none of our business. Nene may choose to speak on the matter when he returns on Wednesday, but we shouldn’t expect it. The only thing that the Wizards and their fans should be concerned about his his health, and they will need him with injuries to Emeka Okafor.
