You knew it was coming.
Fantasy owners who bought into the hype that wide receiver Danny Amendola was the next coming of Wes Welker for the New England Patriots got their just desserts on Sunday. Amendola left the game late in the third quarter of the team’s 30-27 win over the New Orleans Saints with an unspecified head injury. Amendola had two catches before leaving the game but was unable to gain any yardage.
Amendola was hit on an end-around play and did not return to the game. Likely, the injury is a form of concussion, although no official diagnosis has been released.
Amendola owners have been frustrated by his latest injury. In Week 1 he caught 10 passes for 104 yards in his debut with the Pats.
Amendola could be out 2-4 weeks. The Patriots are tight-lipped about injuries and timetables, which leaves fantasy owners in the lurch. However, those wishing to replace Amendola on the roster can go with Plan B and pick up veteran receiver Austin Collie, who has had a series of concussion-related injuries himself.
Just make sure you have a Plan C.
