New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert cuts flattop

New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert has decided to do away with his iconic hairdo. Shumpert’s new look for the 2013 season was revealed in an Instagram photo sent out by Jonah Ballow today.

The third-year player out of Georgia Tech, known for his tenacious defense, is currently battling Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith for the starting spot on New York’s roster. Smith will be suspended for five games when the regular season starts, and Shumpert is currently dealing with a shoulder problem.

Although not yet ready to make a decision, head coach Mike Woodson provided a bit of insight on the competition between the two players:

If he stays healthy then Iman has the jump on J.R. If that’s the case he can be starting come opening night. If J.R. comes back and is able to take it from him then, hey, nothing is set in stone with our team (Long Island News Day).

Shumpert saw a slight uptick in his stats during the 2012-13 Postseason. He averaged three more rebounds and roughly three more points per game than he did during the regular season.
