The New York Rangers aren’t ready to sell the farm after a 1-4 start that has featured two blowout losses, but they aren’t willing to idly stand by and wait for the team to fix itself either. The first casualties of New York’s nightmare start were backup goaltender Martin Biron and forward Arron Asham.
The moves were made on top of the team moving Rick Nash to the IR, opening up some roster space for some jump and pizzazz. Sending Biron to the minors comes on the heals of some atrocious outings for the journeymen netminder. Head coach Alain Vigneault said as much when he explained the move to the media. As per Ranger Rants:
It is a performance based business and the organization felt that Marty’s first two performances were not what we expected. We decided to put him on waivers and we’re going to get together this afternoon as a group and talk about where we got from there. So we’ll see what happens in the next couple of hours.
The Rangers won’t announce any callups until Tuesday morning, but it’s likely that they’ll look into the services of either J.T. Miller or Chris Kreider, and will utilize Cam Talbot as Henrik Lundqvist’s backup for now.
