After throwing for 169 yards and a touchdown in Colorado’s loss to Arizona State this past Saturday, true freshman Sefo Liufau was named the starting quarterback for the Buffaloes. He replaces junior Connor Wood, who has struggled throughout the season.
Junior Paul Richardson, one of the best receivers in the Pac-12, expressed confidence in head coach Mike MacIntyre’s decision:
I think Sefo is ready to step in and I think he’ll do fine. Guys were motivated (when Liufau came into the game). They wanted to help him get the ball into the end zone to build his confidence and we did that.
We just have to do everything we can in our different position groups on offense to make Sefo’s job that much easier. As his confidence builds, it’s going to be good for the duration of this season and his future as the quarterback here (Buff Zone).
Sefo’s first start will come next week against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, an undefeated team from the FCS.
