The NBA season is rapidly approaching, and while Lang Whitaker of NBA.com has the market cornered on “Muscle Watch”, new Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown isn’t happy with one of his players’ bodies.

Tom Moore of PhillyBlurbs.com gives us the following quotes from Brown in reference to forward Lavoy Allen’s physique:

"“The reciprocal deal is he’s got to get in great shape. Those are non-negotiables. Either you weigh something or you don’t. Either your skin fold is ‘X’ or it isn’t. We need to see signs as we continue to work with him and help him and be patient with him — which we all are — that it’s a two-way street.”"

Not so bad, right? Well, here is one from Brown on a not-so-veiled reference to bra size. Yes, bra size.

"“He’s a C.” Asked where he needs Allen to be, he replied, “An A.”"

Well, then.

In fairness to Allen, he was absent from the first week or so of training camp as a result of a nagging knee injury, but public comments about being out-of-shape are never a positive. Philadelphia is becoming legendary for their roster construction (or lack thereof) for 2013-2014, and because of that, Allen is actually being counted on to potentially play significant minutes for the Sixers.

It remains to be seen how effective Allen will be in a magnified role, but one thing seems certain. He’s not seeing the court in a meaningful way until the conditioning issue is fixed.
