This is an interesting game in the CONMEBOL’s World Cup Qualifying matches ahead of the day. Even though Ecuador is ahead of Chile on goal differential they’re more or less tied with 25 points. That puts each of them three points ahead of Uruguay.
A draw qualifies both of the teams for the World Cup. If one of them loses they risk being leapfrogged by Uruguay, provided they could score a lot of goals against Argentina. Uruguay has a negative goal differential so they’d need to make up a lot of ground. Chile has a three goal differential. That means if Chile lost by one goal, Uruguay would need to win by four goals to pass them out right.
There could be a bit of collusion on Chile and Ecuador’s sides to simply play passively and neither team really being aggressive since they only need a draw. If they decide to play some youngsters, they might not be able to resist scoring some goals and for winning. This game will be an interesting one to watch.
