In the offseason the Atlanta Falcons looked like they had one of the biggest arsenal of weapons in the NFL. They signed running back Steven Jackson of the St. Louis Rams to bolster their run game. They had the league’s best wide receiver tandem in Julio Jones and Roddy White not to mention on of the league’s best tight ends in Tony Gonzalez.

Unfortunately, everything has gone wrong for the Falcons this year. Steven Jackson has been out with an injury and pretty much only played in one game. He left the game in week two early with a hamstring injury and has been out ever since. Faclons leading receiver Julio Jones’ season just ended as well.

Wide receiver Roddy White has been dealing with an ankle injury and pulled his hamstring in week 5’s loss to the Jets. Running back Jason Snelling suffered a concussion but he could be set to return.

D. Orlando Ledbetter tweeted on Tuesday: “Falcons RB Jason Smelling is back at practice today.”

That is good news for the Falcons who’ve put their run offense on the shoulders of Jacquizz Rodgers. He has carried the ball 52 times for 177 yards and two touchdowns and caught 17 passes for 109 yards as well.

Snelling has 28 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown this season. He’s added 16 receptions for 134 yards and two touchdowns as well.

The Falcons could use both these dual threats in their backfield if they’re going to turn things around and get their season back on track.
