A bruised hand will force Jimmy Howard to miss another game for the Detroit Red Wings. The starting netminder had his hand bruised by a shot against the Philadelphia Flyers on October 12, and the injury forced him out of Detroit’s contest against the Boston Bruins yesterday.
The Wings got Jonas Gustavsson back just in time for him to spell Howard. “Monster” was strong in his 2013-14 NHL season debut against the B’s, making 28 saves (many of them key) as Detroit got a much-needed victory. Brendan Savage at MLive.com reported that Gustavsson would get the nod earlier this morning. Per his report:
…goaltender Jonas Gustavsson will start again tonight when the Detroit Red Wings host the Columbus Blue Jackets at Joe Louis Arena.
Gustavsson was a late addition to the starting lineup in Boston after Jimmy Howard took warmups but was unable to play because of a bruise to his left (catching) hand suffered in Saturday’s 5-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.
This will be Gustavsson’s first start at Joe Louis Arena despite the fact that he’s been a member of the Red Wings for one season already. A groin injury kept him on the shelf through a majority of the 2013 campaign.
