You could make quite the argument Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota has been the best player in college football this season. Mariota has been nearly flawless this year while leading the second-ranked Ducks to a 6-0 record. On the season, Mariota has completed 100 of 165 passes for 1,724 yards with 17 touchdowns and zero interceptions. The redshirt sophomore has also rushed for 426 yards and eight touchdowns on just 41 attempts.
At 6’4 and 211 lbs., the Honolulu, Hawaii native has great NFL size and several pundits believe Mariota could be the #1 overall pick of the 2014 NFL draft should he decide to skip his last two years of college.
Despite all of his success, the NFL is not something Mariota wants to discuss until after the season.
“My family and I have decided to hold off on these conversations until after the season,” Mariota said via John Canzano of Oregon Live. “We’re obviously going to put the pros and cons together, and we’re going to do what’s best for the family. At the same time, my education is important… I love Oregon. I love the community. We’ll decide when the time is right.”
The Ducks will host the Washington State Cougars Saturday at 10:00 pm EST.
