Rousimar Palhares was recently cut and banned from the UFC after an unsportsmanlike conduct incident at UFC Fight Night 29, where the Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt held on to a heel hook too long well after Mike Pierce had tapped.
Palhares was still set to return to action at the 2013 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship after qualifying for a spot following his second-place finish at the world championships in 2011, but the Brazilian had not answered any calls or messages from the tournament officials and they ultimate chose to pull him from the field.
“He said he would fight depending on how his fight (with Pierce) went,” Wagner Gomes, the secretary of ADCC in Brazil, said according to MMAFighting.com. “I sent him several messages, but he didn’t respond. They wanted him there, but he didn’t reply any of my messages or calls.”
Despite not having Palhares in the tournament, ADCC will still go on with 14 fighters in the 77 kg division, including UFC fighter Dong Hyun Kim, who is coming off of a devastating knockout win at the same event that ended Palhares’ UFC career.
