By the time you wake up on Thursday morning, Bo Van Pelt will be defending his title at The ISPS HANDA Perth International at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club near Perth. Van Pelt beat fellow American Jason Dufner last year at the inagural tournament by two shots . This year, Dustin Johnson will join Van Pelt while Jason Dufner is in Bermuda playing at the Grand Slam against the other 2013 major champions.
Bo Van Pelt is currently ranked 44th in the Official World Golf Rankings(OWGR), and has not had a stellar season since winning here last year. He was able only to manage 16 cuts out of 22 starts on the PGA Tour in 2013, and finished the FedEx Cup campaign in 90th position. He was able to get seven top 25 finishes, but only one top 10.
Van Pelt finished with a solid T6 at the Wells Fargo back in May, and played well at the Tavistock Cup, and the CVS Caremark Classic. Unfortunately, the Wells Fargo was the only top ten points finish.
During the FedEx Cup playoffs, Bo missed the cut at the Barclays, and the T53 finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship finally eliminated him from further competing for the Cup.
The ISPS HANDA is the final tournament before the Race To Dubai playoffs get underway in Shanghai next week at the BMW Masters. All the big boys should be back in action there, including FedEx Cup Champion, Henrik Stenson. Stenson leads the RTD with Graeme McDowell, Justin Rose, Richard Sterne and Matteo Manassero rounding out the top five.
