Rolex Ranked number two Suzann Pettersen brings her hot-streak into South Korea this week to defend her 2012 title at the LPGA HEB HanaBank Championship. The HanaBank is a 54 hole event that tees off Friday at the Sky 72 Golf Club in Incheon, South Korea. The 6364 yard, par 72 Ocean Course is located near Seoul. This tournament was started in 2001, but cancelled that year due to political unrest in the area.
The 32 year-old from Oslo, Norway sank a five foot putt on the third playoff hole last year to beat Catorina Matthew for her then, ninth career LPGA win. Pettersen also won here in 2007.
The Norwegian is coming off a tie for third at last week’s Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia where she fired rounds of 67-68-67-70. Pettersen already has three victories under her belt this season including one major title at the The Evian Championship.
“I feel like I’ve been on Tour quite a long time now and I feel like we’ve had some great number ones during my time on the LPGA,” said Pettersen. “Annika Sorenstam was one, Lorena Ochoa was a great number one, Yani Tseng was a very dominant player and now we have Inbee and I think all I can do is try to become the best I can be.”
With only five tournament left on the 2013 LPGA schedule, Suzann Peterssen is looking to move into the top spot in the Rolex Rankings before the season ends the next month in Naples. Number one, Inbee Park is on-hand for this tournament in her native South Korea along with number four ranked So Neon Ryu, and number six, Na Yeon Choi.
Number three ranked Stacy Lewis is taking the week off, however, Paula Creamer, and Christie Kerr will be teeing it up on Friday. Creamer is ranked number 11, and Kerr number 12.
The LPGA HEB HanaBank Championship will be televised on the Golf Channel all three days from 11AM until 2PM Eastern Time.
