It’s good to see the Ray Lewis defense is alive and well and being put to good use.
According to the Associated Press, Shayanna Jenkins, the fiancée of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, pleaded not guilty to a perjury charge on Tuesday, saying she couldn’t remember what she did.
Jenkins is accused of lying to the grand jury about her role in destroying evidence, according to Boston.com. The prosecution contended that after Odin Lloyd, 27, was killed, Hernandez told Jenkins collect a box in the basement, put it in a bag with baby clothes and throw the bag into a dumpster. According to prosecution accounts, Jenkins said she could not remember which dumpster she threw the bag.
“She told the grand jury she dumped it in a dumpster, but she couldn’t tell anybody where it was,” Bristol County prosecutor Patrick Bromberg told Boston.com.
Jenkins contends she did not contradict herself and did not remember which dumpster she threw the box into.
Jenkins was held prior to her sentencing but was released on her own recognizance.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty to murder and gun charges and is currently being held without bail. Estimates are that it could be up to two years before the Hernandez case comes to trial.
No doubt Hernandez’s memory will be a bit more faded by that time.
