Justin Houston leads the Chiefs with 9.5 sacks in just his third year in the league. His career-best of 10 was set just last year amid a 2-14 campaign, and was one of lone bright spots of that disastrous season. The former third round pick out of Georgia was projected to be a situational pass-rusher in the pros, but now he’s become someone opposing coaches have to gameplan for.

"“We’re doing our job and having our fun doing it. We know they can’t double both sides at once,” Houston said. “It’s really just a feel, we play off each other.”"

The advanced statistics also say Houston is having a year worth of Defensive Player of the Year consideration. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s second among all 3-4 outside linebackers in total snaps (418) and overall grade (+16.6).

Robert Quinn, J.J. Watt and Cameron Jordan are the only defensive players to have a better grade than him, regardless of position. If the Chiefs are to keep their winning ways going throu the rest of the season, expect that to be as the result of Houston continuing to play like a defensive MVP.
