When the Tennessee Volunteers take on the 11th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks Saturday, running back Marlin Lane should be back in the lineup.
Lane, a 5’11, 205 lb. junior, was injured after a five-carry, 66-yard performance in a 31-24 victory over the South Alabama Jaguars on September 28. His foot injury kept him out of Tennessee’s heart-breaking 34-31 overtime loss to the Georgia Bulldogs a week later.
The Volunteers had a bye last week, which has allowed Lane to heal up and he is expected to play Saturday.
Lane, a once highly touted prospect out of Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida, has rushed for 280 yards and four touchdowns on just 45 carries this season. He’s also caught six passes for 31 yards.
Rajion Neal, a senior, has rushed for 616 yards and seven touchdowns on 108 attempts.
It isn’t all good news for the Volunteers. Head coach Butch Jones was hoping to get junior linebacker Curt Maggitt, who tore his ACL 11 months ago, back on the field, but he won’t be able to go.
The Volunteers and Gamecocks will kick off at noon EST Saturday. You can watch the game on ESPN.
