2013 Grand Slam of Golf: Adam Scott Adds Pink Jacket To His Collection

Adam Scott fired a course record seven under par 64 on Wednesday afternoon to beat first round leader, US Open Champion Justin Rose at The World Series of Golf. Scott trailed Rose by four shots with ten holes to play, but his six-iron shot at the par five 17th hole that nearly went in for an Albatross was the marquee shot of the tournament. The tap-in eagle three was good enough for a two-shot win, a new Pink Jacket, and a check for $600,000 dollars.

The six iron shot Scott hit on the 17th hole at the Port Royal Golf Course in Bermuda was the same one hit on the final shot at Augusta that earned him a Green Jack, but he said later they were new irons in his bag.

"“Obviously, I’m thrilled to come out on top,” Scott said. “Fun — but a trying couple of days here, really, especially today. Standing on the 11th tee, didn’t look like a score like that was going to be possible. But I played very well and managed to slowly claw away at Justin.”"

Justin Rose seemed to have a firm handle on the championship, but was only able to shoot 70 in the final round. He fired a 67 in the opening round on Tuesday, but his 36 in the final nine holes to Scott’s 31 was not enough to close the deal.

"“I started with a two-shot lead and somebody had to shoot well to beat me,” Rose said. “When you’re in that position you want to close it out. But when somebody finishes it out like that, you have to tip your hat and say you were beaten rather than losing. He was 4-under the last six, so that’s a strong finish.”"

For breaking the course record 65 that was set by Lucas Glover back in 2009, Scott received an honorary membership at Port Royal.

Adam Scott, Justin Rose, and Jason Dufner were first timers at this event which is a contest made for television that pits the years four major champions against each other. Open Champ, Phil Mickelson was absent this year and replaced by last year’s winner, Padraig Harrington. Harrington finished last this year, but got a check for $200,000 dollars for his time.
