Jose Aldo vs. Ricardo Lamas considered for UFC 169 in New Jersey

The UFC’s Super Bowl card in New Jersey was originally expected to be headlined by a light-heavyweight title bout between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira, but the bout has since been moved from the big event. Now, there are rumors about a new potential main event.

UFC president Dana White said today that the promotion is considering placing a featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Ricardo Lamas on the card. Lamas is currently ranked as the No. 3 featherweight in the world.

If the bout comes to fruition, the 145-pounders would hold top billing on a card that features a crucial fight in the heavyweight division between Alistair Overeem and Frank Mir. The loser of that fight is likely to be released.

An Aldo title defense in New Jersey would mark only the third defense of his UFC crown that has been on United States soil.

Aldo’s previous defenses have been in his home country of Brazil and Canada, so the American fans would again be treated to one of the best fighters in the sport.
