Rapper Nelly questions Los Angeles Lakers' tactics to retain Dwight Howard

Hip-hop isn’t the only love of rapper Nelly, who is about as big a sports fan as one can be. And while he’s a bit more true to his allegiances than say, Lil Wayne, he stays plugged in around the leagues – especially the NBA.

A few weeks back, Nelly appeared on ESPN’s First Take and made some waves in regards to comments about Kobe Bryant, essentially suggesting that Bryant’s talent level combined with his somewhat snarly personality could possibly be the reason some players have avoided signing with Los Angeles in the past few seasons. One such player mentioned was Dwight Howard, who opted to sign with the Houston Rockets rather than return to Los Angeles.

Nelly went on to suggest that some of the tactics he saw from the Lakers, for instance, the massive billboards around the city were embarrassing to the franchise who shouldn’t have to ‘beg’ for a player to play with them:

To see, to see billboards travelin’ through the city, people puttin’ up everything, it’s almost like yo – are you guys begging? Are the Lakers….begging? No! You’re the Lakers! What do you mean!??!
