The Eastern Michigan Eagles have suffered a tragedy today in Ypsilanti. The team has confirmed this afternoon that wide receiver Demarius Reed has been the victim in an active homicide investigation. His body was discovered at an off campus apartment building hallway at 7:15 this morning.
To this point, no details have been released and no suspects are in custody. The Ypsilanti Police Department is asking for the public’s help in this investigation. The school has not released an official statement. There has been no indication when that will happen.
Reed was a starting receiver for the Eagles and caught 15 passes for 189 yards this season in six games, which had him fourth on the team. He was in his junior year. The Eagles are scheduled to play the Ohio University Bobcats tomorrow (Saturday) at 1pm. There has been no announcement as to how this will impact the game or if there will be a change in the schedule or how they will handle this situation at this point in time.
Our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Demarius Reed and anyone else affected by this senseless act of violence and to the Eastern Michigan family as a whole.
