Last week it was announced that Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film based on the bestselling book trilogy of the same name by author E. L. James. Now, it appears the search for the man who will step into Christian Grey’s designer shoes is kicking into high gear.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the casting of the film’s main character should be completed within the next few weeks.
Even though the casting for the movie has hit an unfortunate setback, the studio is still committed to the film’s original release date.
There have been a lot of names being thrown around of actors who could, or should, take the place of Hunnam.
Prior to the casting of the Sons of Anarchy star, names like The Vampire Diaries’ Ian Somerhalder and White Collar’s Matt Bomer were thrown around.
Now that Hunnam has come and gone, a new batch of names is getting tossed around; some plausible, some not so much.
One of those names is Twilight star Robert Pattinson. We are going to tally this one under the not so much heading. While I have no doubt that the actor has the ability to play the role, there are two things standing in the way. First off, Pattinson looks absolutely nothing like what Christian Grey is described as in the book series. Secondly, we all know after seeing him go through the media frenzy that surrounded the Twilight Saga that Pattinson is highly allergic to attention. I simply don’t think he would be able to handle the fandom once again.
The second one of those names being tossed around is True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard. Now, this one I will hold as a legitimate option. He looks a lot more like the way that the billionaire businessman with a penchant for kink was described in the book series. We also know that he has absolutely no issues with getting naked in front of people. Should you have any doubts, see just about any episode of True Blood.
It is unknown at this time who the studio is really taking a long, hard look at. They have done a pretty good job of keeping the real details to themselves until they make their decision.
Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2014.
