Mike Napoli says he wants to return to Boston Red Sox

While Mike Napoli didn’t exactly hit for a high average this season, he still put up solid numbers, clubbing 23 home runs while driving in 92 runners – a career high. It was good timing for Napoli, who will be a free agent at season end.

Despite his impending status, that doesn’t mean Napoli is overly concerned with hitting the open market as he recently suggested that he wants to return to the Boston Red Sox next season:

“I’m not worried about that right now, and I don’t think (the Red Sox) are right now,” Napoli said before going 3-for-4 with a home run last night in the Sox’ 4-3 win in Game 5 of the AL Championship Series. “We’re trying to win a championship. I want to be here. I love it here. It’s a great situation, great city, the fans are awesome. It’s been awesome. I mean, I want to be here, but we’ll worry about that later.”

Somewhat of a career journeyman, Napoli is now receiving solid playing time on a team who routinely finds themselves playing deep into October, so there’s not much to dislike for the Florida native.
