While it’s been blatantly obvious that the new-look Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat aren’t exactly friendly, things have heated up in the past few days which just so happened to coincide with their preseason tilt on Thursday night.
Prior to Thursday’s game, both LeBron James and Dwyane Wade questioned why Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry didn’t catch similar flack as their teammate Ray Allen, who left the Celtics for the Heat in the 2012 offseason. Allen was more or less blasted as being a ‘ring chaser’ and Garnett even went as far as to suggest he deleted Allen’s phone number while Terry questioned Allen’s heart.
Fast forward to last evening when during the first quarter in a 9-9 game, James grabbed a rebound and promptly ran down the court looking for a somewhat easy basket. Paul Pierce, who was already awaiting James, decided he’d give him a nice hipcheck to prevent the ‘easy basket’.
The foul wasn’t really anything out of the ordinary in regards to what we’d see in the regular season, though in the preseason? That’s a bit of an unwritten rule.
To James’ credit, nothing got out of hand and everybody pretended like nothing happened though I highly doubt the hip check will be quickly forgotten.
