The injury news just keep getting worse for Hugh Freeze and his Ole Miss Rebels. It was already announced earlier in the week that highly-touted freshman Robert Nkemdiche would miss multiple games due to injury, and word came out yesterday that defensive end C.J. Johnson, who led the Rebels with 6.5 sacks last year, will miss the rest of the 2013 season. Johnson, who missed the team’s last two games after getting hurt against Alabama, will have surgery on his right leg and will apply for a medical redshirt.
The loss of Johnson is a big one for the Rebels, especially considering the team will play LSU this Saturday. The Tigers have one of the most explosive offenses in the SEC thanks to new offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, and Johnson, had he been healthy, could have potentially helped put pressure on quarterback Zach Mettenberger. Cameron Whigham, a senior, will likely start in place of Johnson.
We wish Johnson the best with his recovery.
