Rafael Nadal has had a great year of tennis despite missing the beginning of the season due to recovery on his knee. He recently earned the number one overall seed in men’s tennis; but it seems as though all of his success is finally getting to him.
Nadal said that he will be not be playing in the Swiss Indoors tournament because of fatigue. According to the Associated Press,
On his Facebook page, Nadal writes, “Hi all, sorry to announce that I won’t travel to Basel in Switzerland but after very exhausting weeks I have to regroup my fitness and my body.”
Nadal has played 74 competitive matches since recovering from a knee injury in February, which had kept the Spaniard out for seven months. He has lost only five times.
Yes, you read that right….five times. Rafael Nadal is 69-5 on the year, and only looks to increase that number in the win column. By withdrawing from the Swiss Indoors, it gives Nadal extra time to rest and recover, hopefully so that he will be ready to play at a top level for the ATP World Tour Final in a few weeks.
Nadal’s next tournament is now scheduled to be the Paris Masters, starting Oct. 28, before the ATP World Tour Finals in London on Nov. 4.
