Stephen Drew will be in Boston's Game 6 lineup despite struggles

The Boston Red Sox are looking to reach the World Series once again since the 2007 season.

Guys like David Ortiz and Mike Napoli have carried their regular season play into the post season where it counts. But when it comes to infielder Stephen Drew, you really can’t say the same.

But despite his struggles, manager John Farrell says that Stephen will in fact be in Boston’s Game 6 lineup as they look to close the series against the Detroit Tigers.

Farrell seems to believe that he can still contribute to the team, that’s not the case for the 30 year old shortstop.

“I’m not saying that we don’t have good defenders otherwise. But Stephen’s taking good swings. We all recognize the struggles that are there. But he shores up the middle of our infield so well that I’m certainly going to preserve that. Yes, Stephen will be in the lineup tomorrow.” Red Sox manager John Farrell via Pete Abraham.

Right now Stephen is batting just 1-17 with eight strike outs in the series. In just this series alone he’s struck out eight times. Those are the type of numbers that gets your replaced and sent back down to the minors.

Hopefully Stephen can have a better game tomorrow as the team looks to finish off Detroit. I would think if he puts up a goose egg in the hit column for himself, he may end up seeing some bench time during the big series.
