It’s not a big surprise that Cincinnati Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is already getting some interest from a couple teams around the league, especially those with enough money to pull him away from Cincinnati.
According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, Choo may be getting some interest from former National League Central rival, the Houston Astros. Right now the Houston Astros are currently in rebuild mode and are looking to get younger.
But they would be absolutely crazy if they didn’t consider bringing in Choo to anchor their outfield. If the team is in a rough spot like they were this season, they could possibly trade Choo for more prospects. So it would more than likely be a ‘Let’s sign him, see where we go and deal him away for top prospects’ type of deal. Not sure if Choo would be interested in going that route, but it seems to be the mindset in Houston.
Houston’s total team payroll last year ended up being around $25 million while Choo could be looking for a deal close to $100 million as it would be the final contract of his career.
It’ll be interesting to see who will land this top free agent outfielder.
