The Texas Rangers had a front office power struggle between CEO Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels. Ultimately, the Rangers went with Jon Daniels and Nolan Ryan announced he was resigning and would officially step down on October 31st.

Ryan has a special place in the hearts of Rangers fans, and he received a lot of credit for their success. Almost all of it to a certain degree when you can make the argument, as one local radio show host did, that Jon Daniels deserves the lion’s share of the credit.

So when news that Ryan was stepping down came out, Rangers fans reacted negatively and were incredibly upset. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban thinks the Rangers are in good hands with Jon Daniels.

“All I can say is Jon Daniels is smart, and Jon Daniels isn’t out for Jon Daniels,” Cuban said, via ESPN Dallas. “I talked to Jon a few times, and the sense I always get is that he’s dedicated, he’s focused, he’s committed, and it’s not ego driven.

“He just wants to win, and I think if you’ve got somebody like that, then he’ll adjust to do whatever is best for the organization. I’m sure he’s upset that Nolan’s leaving, too. But again, I don’t know any of the specifics. But I’m a Rangers fan, and I think they’re in good hands with Jon.”

If the Rangers slump again instead of rebounding, you can bet that Daniels will get the blame and ire of fans.
