Last weekend, New Orleans Pelicans swingman Tyreke Evans said he would return at some point this week. That didn’t happen and now Evans, who has missed five straight preseason games after suffering an ankle injury is questionable for the season opener.
The 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year was acquired from the Sacramento Kings during the offseason, this after declining play, much of it due to a handful of injuries related to his feet and ankles. So clearly, when Evans went down with another ankle injury in his first game as a Pelican, there was obvious concern.
If there is any positive news on the horizon, it is that Evans says he is slowly getting better and progressing towards some action, this according to Jim Eichenhofer:
Tyreke is not playing tonight but is getting closer to game action. RT
@ChiefFif I’m going to game. Any word on Tyreke being available?
Of course, it was Evans himself who said he expected to play this past week and never touched the floor, so it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
