UFC 166 results: Daniel Cormier dominates Roy Nelson on way to decision win

In the co-main event of the evening, a heavyweight battle between Daniel Cormier and Roy “Big Country” Nelson was set to take center stage. Cormier was hoping to earn a shot at the light heavyweight weight title with a win in this bout, while Nelson also had some plans of his own to make the move down to light heavy.

It was a crucial fight for the future of both guys careers, so they were eager to come away with the win.

Both fighters came to the center of the cage with a very measured approach as they looked to avoid the opponent’s knockout power but Cormier was able to change levels early to land a huge takedown of Nelson and Cormier was able to easily handle Big Country on the ground.

Cormier was able to keep the pressure on Nelson and stick to him like glue no matter where the fight went and Nelson was showing immediate signs of wearing down because of the grueling pace and grappling from the Olympic wrestler.

Round 1 was all Cormier and Big Country found himself in some serious trouble after eating heavy shots from Cormier at the ent of the round.

Cormier again began the fight more calculated knowing that he had the edge over his opponent and he appeared to be timing Nelson for a big shot of his own. Nelson looked lost due to the speed of Cormier and Cormier kept on coming.

The second round was much like the first, with Cormier controlling the action wherever it went.

Cormier was hoping to land a finish in the final round, while Nelson needed a finish if he wanted to get his hand raised in victory.

Nelson decided to taunt Cormier in the final seconds despite being down significantly on the scorecards, but Cormier was not biting and he stuck to his gameplan and picked apart the TUF: Heavyweights winner on way to a dominating victory.
