Houston Rockets struggling to find power forward, may play Howard, Asik together

With both Dwight Howard and Omer Asik on the same roster, you wouldn’t think a team would have trouble with their big man rotation but that’s a problem the Houston Rockets apparently have.

The team has been hoping somebody on the roster would step up and take control of the power forward role, but so far, no luck. It has lead head coach Kevin McHale to explore the idea of playing both Howard and Asik together in the starting lineup, an option that was raised before training camp began.

Saturday’s practice moved the Rockets back to the experiment of playing Howard and Asik together, an option that appears to have become an idea McHale seems to embrace despite potential spacing issues that could threaten the dribble penetration of James Harden and Jeremy Lin and the low-post options of Howard.

Nobody really knows how effective or ineffective the two players playing together will be, though, given both are expected to average over 30 minutes, it’s not as if they won’t be on the court together a significant amount of time anyway.
