Many times in the second half of the season, especially during the playoffs, you could see Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera grabbing for his groin. And while Cabrera wouldn’t exactly be thought of as a speedy base runner in any capacity, his adventures on the basepaths during the postseason were comically slow.

Clearly, something was not right with his groin and now it’s believed the former MVP could potentially need to go under the knife to repair himself.

Per Chris Iott:

Miguel Cabrera may need surgery to repair his groin injury.

The Tigers had already lost manager Jim Leyland earlier today and now with Cabrera potentially undergoing somewhat major surgery, it’s been a rough few days for baseball in Detroit.

There’s no word on how long Cabrera would need for recovery time if he does indeed opt to have surgery as the fear is rest may not fix the issue, or may mask it until Cabrera suffers another injury.

The vaulted offensive star only hit a sub-par .262 in 42 postseason at-bat’s.
