Don Mattingly says he may not return to Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014

Despite having manager Don Mattingly on the bench, the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to fight through many of his boneheaded decisions and get within just two games of the World Series.

The former Yankees great, who likely got third degree burns from a seat that was scorching hot earlier this season all but saved his job thanks to the Dodgers’ historic run to the playoffs, though, despite that Mattingly says he may not return next season despite being told he would be able to:

Mattingly said his option vested, but he doesn’t know if he will return after being a lame duck this year.

There’s really no sense in crying over spilled milk and frankly, given the Dodgers’ budget, Mattingly should have been leading the Dodgers to a far better record then they had during the first few months of the season.

I doubt there are many Dodgers fans out there who’d care if Mattingly stepped aside – hell, most would likely be thrilled.
