In Saturday’s win over Iowa, the Ohio State marching band might have gotten the spotlight. They did a tribute to Michael Jackson, in honor of the 25 year anniversary of the album Bad. The tribute is simply incredible as far as marching band performances go.
They start of making an interlocking MJ logo with a crown above it. They do some usual band movements before spelling out Bad in a similar font and style to that on the album cover. It only gets better from there.
The music is spot on as well, but it gets real interesting around the four minute mark. The band stops playing briefly and the PA announcer says that Jackson was noted for his dancing as well. They go into the song Smooth Criminal, and the band creates an outline or silhouette of his body. They then proceed to do his famous leaning move, and even have his arm reach up to grab his hat.
As he comes out of the lean he goes in to a full on moon-walk for almost the length of the field. They make the figure do a split though, that is kind of weird because I don’t think he used that move.
Still it is pretty incredible.
