Former USC Trojans head coach Lane Kiffin delighted fans with a quarterback competition that dragged on endlessly this off-season. But Kiffin is gone now, so it’s up to interim head coach Ed Orgeron to find a way of amusing the USC faithful.
His idea? A competition for field goal kicker! Are you not excited?!
Andre Heidari, the current USC kicker, has missed five of his 11 field-goal attempts this season, including two big misses from 40-plus yards in USC’s 14-10 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Here’s what Orgeron had to say about the situation Monday: “We feel that Andre has done a lot of good things for us. But we’ll get somebody else to give it a shot and see what happens this week in practice” (The Los Angeles Times).
Competing for Heidari’s job will be walk-ons Alex Wood, who made eight extra points last season, and Craig McMahon. We will definitely be keeping you updated on this thrilling battle for the most important position on the team.
