Falcons sign LB Thomas Howard

The injury plagued Atlanta Falcons are doing anything they can to bolster their porous roster, including signing players with their own injury concerns.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Falcons have announced the signing of veteran linebacker Thomas Howard, waiving linebacker Jamar Chaney to make room on the roster.

The 30-year-old Howard played well for the Cincinnati Bengals last season before tearing his ACL last September. He worked out for the Bengals this season, but was not resigned.

Howard, a second-round pick for the Oakland Raiders in 2006 has been a solid contributor while healthy, recording 492 combined tackles, six sacks, and seven interceptions in his career.

If he has fully recovered from his ACL, Howard will almost certainly help the Falcons out. If he hasn’t recovered, he won’t be much different than many of the other players on the Falcons’ roster.
