Is Florida State QB Jameis Winston the Heisman favorite now?

After mowing down the Clemson Tigers’ defense Saturday night, could Florida State Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston be the favorite to win the Heisman trophy?

According to ESPN’s Heisman predictor, yes he is. Winston’s performance in a 51-14 victory over the Tigers moved him ahead of Oregon Ducks’ quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Winston completed 22-of-34 passes for a career-high 444 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for a touchdown.

On the season, the redshirt freshman from Bessemer, Alabama is 112-of-157 for 1,885 yards with 20 touchdowns passing, three touchdowns rushing and just three interceptions.

Winston’s second-ranked Seminoles will host the North Carolina State Wolfpack Saturday at 3:30 pm EST.

Mariota was excellent Saturday as well. The redshirt sophomore out of Honolulu, Hawaii was 23-of-32 for 327 yards with two touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 67 yards and another touchdown on eight carries. The Ducks defeated the Washington State Cougars 62-38.

On the season, Mariota is 123-of-197 for 2,051 yards with 19 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s also rushed for 493 yards and nine touchdowns on 49 carries.

The third-ranked Ducks will host the 12th-ranked UCLA Bruins Saturday at 7:00 pm EST.
