Things were so peachy in Dodger land just a few days ago, but now, reality is slowly starting to set in.
Just days after being knocked out of the 2013 MLB postseason, manager Don Mattingly said that he may not return to the team in 2014, this after expressing disappointment with the way he was treated prior to the Dodgers’ historic run to the playoffs.
If he does return, he’ll be down two of his favorite staff members as today the team fired bench coach Trey Hillman and advanced scout Wade Taylor, both of whom are considered very close to Mattingly.
Per CBS’ Jon Heyman:
#dodgers fire bench coach trey hillman and advance scout wade taylor. The 2 are close to mattingly.
What exactly this means for Mattingly is unknown, though, I highly doubt he’s pleased with the move or consented given their close ties.
I guess it wouldn’t be Dodger baseball without drama, at least with the way this current season went. We’ll likely know the future of Mattingly in the coming weeks as he’ll be pressed into giving a commitment in the near future, if he hasn’t been already.
