Peter King wrote on The MMQB that “at least two teams love Mariota to the point that I believe if he comes out those teams would have him higher on their board than Bridgewater.” That number may grow. The redshirt sophomore can do no wrong right now, with a dual-threat that should translate very well to the next level.
Regardless of which way you go, the multi-dimensional ability of Mariota or the ultra-beautiful ball placement of Bridgewater, a team in need of a quarterback (of which somehow there are always several) can’t go wrong. These two are that close in talent.
There may even be a third consideration for a franchise quarterback available early in the draft. Taj Boyd is like a combination of both of those players and is not too far behind, checking in at 13th this week. Size continues to be a debatable issue, despite a terrific college career and the emergence of Russell Wilson.
Jadeveon Clowney continues as the number one prospect on the board, but may not be there for long if he doesn’t pick it up.
