CSKA Moscow has an opportunity to move into the top half of the table with a win over Manchester City today. Getting three points against the English side won’t be easy, and CSKA Moscow is definitely considered an underdog despite playing at home. Manchester City is just a little over a year removed from being crowned English Premier League Champions. One potential advantage for Moscow, the pitch.
“I think it is unbelievable that the most important competition of the world is allowed to play in this pitch,” Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said, via ESPN FC. “We must pray tomorrow. If it is raining I think it will be impossible to play.”
CSKA hasn’t played in this stadium since August and they played their last home Champions League game 400 miles away, in Zenit St. Petersburg’s stadium. If it does rain though, Pellegrini thinks the game should be postponed.
“I think so. Really, I couldn’t believe when I saw the pitch – not only for the two teams, but the people, this is the most important competition of the world. I think it deserves a better pitch.”
CSKA manager Leonid Slutsky had a more light-hearted approach to the pitch conditions.
“I suppose the quality of the pitch is, absolutely, equal to the quality of our latest results.”
