Will he or won’t he? That’s been the question regarding the status of Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly for a few days now. But according to the Los Angeles Times, we have our answer.
Don Mattingly will be returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2014 season.
Per Dylan Hernandez:
Don Mattingly will manage the Dodgers next season.
“I always thought that,” team President Stan Kasten said. “Absolutely.”
Kasten’s comments were made Wednesday after Mattingly’s agent, Ray Schulte, said Mattingly intended to honor his contract.
Mattingly, in a press conference Monday afternoon suggested that he wasn’t sure if he’d return to the club after expressing disappointment with how he was treated during the Dodgers’ poor start to the year, though with a contract option that vested he didn’t have a lot of options unless he wanted to forfeit his salary.
The Dodgers certainly weren’t interested in eating his salary, so it appears the marriage will continue on for at least one more season.
