With Jake Peavy looking to pick up a start for the Boston Red Sox during the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, he’s currently pulling for former bench coach Rick Renteria to pick up the vacant managers job for the Chicago Cubs.

Peavy spent majority of his career with Renteria in San Diego as a member of the Padres organization. Right now Chicago’s focus is on the youth on this 25 man major league roster and of course the ones in the farm system.

Jake has seen first hand what Renteria was able to do with young talent on the Padres.

"“Nick Hundley was never supposed to be the starting catcher, and there was that whole attitude and demeanor with (shortstop) Everth Cabrera. But Ricky (Renteria) having a Spanish side of things are, (hitting) the ground balls to Cabrera every day, the work he did with him, and (telling him), ‘You can be one of the best in the game if you want to be.’ Ricky has great relationships within the clubhouse.” Jake Peavy via the Chicago Tribune."

You would have to think that the front office of this Chicago Cubs franchise would be paying close attention to what Peavy said about Renteria as they continued their search. It’s always a plus to have a manager on your team who can speak Spanish fluently, since a good portion of this league speaks that language.

Renteria could very well be the next manager of the Chicago Cubs
