On Tuesday, New England Patriots head coach said the New York Jets also pushed on field goal attempts.

Belichick was referencing a penalty that cost the Patriots the game in a 30-27 overtime loss to the Jets Sunday. After a missed field goal by the Jets in overtime, Patriots defensive tackle Chris Jones was called for pushing an opponent into the pile in an attempt to to block the kick. The Jets moved up 15 yards, kicked again and won the game.

Belichick also claimed it wasn’t a penalty, but later admitted he was wrong about the rule.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan fired back at Belichick Wednesday.

“That’s not true,” Ryan told Jane McManus of ESPN New York. “He’s got to make up his mind. Was he aware of this thing? Was it second level, all this kind of jazz? Or now what the story is.”

“We did it? OK, I got you. The fact is we’re moving on, we earned that victory plain and simple, and we’re focused on Cincinnati now.”

The Jets will be in Cincinnati to take on the Bengals Sunday at 4:05 pm EST while the Patriots will host the Miami Dolphins at 1:00 pm EST.

Unfortunately these teams have already met twice so they won’t see each other again unless its in the postseason.
