Talk about the most odd vote of confidence you’ll ever hear.
Cleveland Browns CEO Joe Banner told reporters this evening that while he would be ‘completely shocked’ if the team traded Josh Gordon, he began the conversation with a ‘never say never’ moment. Noncommittal much?
“If you’re in this long enough, you learn to never say anything absolute, because then something comes up and you look like you lied,” Banner said. “I personally — and I think anybody here — would be completely shocked if we ended up trading him. Josh is playing great. He’s working his butt off.”
The NFL’s trade deadline is less than a week away and there are reportedly offers on the table for Gordon, though, as of now the Browns obviously haven’t felt they were up to par with what they’re wanting.
Clearly, the ‘never say anything is absolute’ sentiment is an indication that team would be opening to trading him if they received an offer they liked, but for a player one strike (literally) away from a potential season long suspension, the offers are likely going to be lower than the Browns’ perceived value of Gordon.
