In four months (give or take), NBA Commissioner David Stern will end his near three decade reign over the league and hand things off to Adam Silver.
Before that though, Stern had to partake in his final Board of Governors meeting, which includes a handful of NBA owners including Mark Cuban of the Dallas Mavericks. The eccentric owner has a bit of a love/hate relationship with Stern, being fined over $1 million dollars by the NBA’s figurehead during Cuban’s tenure as owner of the Mavericks.
Still, with Stern on his way out, Cuban and fellow NBA owners wanted to give him a nice parting gift. What exactly was that gift? Attempting to get him wasted.
Per Tim MacMahon:
Mark Cuban from NBA board of governors meeting: “This is actually David Stern’s last meeting and we’re trying to get him drunk.”
While Stern is often extra stoic in demeanor, I can’t help but picture him boozing it up, tie flipped over his shoulder with a pair of boxers on his head as he danced on the tables in the hotel conference room.
