New York Yankees worth $3.3 billion

Every year, Forbes magazine releases a list of the most valuable sports team in the world. In 2013, the soccer franchise Real Madrid topped the list with a $3.3 billion valuation. The next two teams were also soccer teams, Manchester United and Barcelona. The New York Yankees came in at 4th, and the most valuable American sports franchise at $2.3 billion.

Bloomberghowever, gave the Yankees a different valuation. According to Bloomberg, the Yankees are worth $3.3 billion. The same valuation Forbes gave Real Madrid, and $1 billion higher than the evaluation Forbes gave them. Forbes also only valued one other team over a billion dollars, Manchester United.

I’m sort of inclined to believe Bloomberg, more than Forbes. For starters they give a more detailed breakdown of the number they came up with. They do value the team at $2.092 billion to start. They add $932 million for their regional sports network, $148 million for related business and $110 media for advanced media.

The Forbes gives just a $85 million mark from their rights fees from the YES network.

Nevertheless it’s a staggering number and $1.2 billion more than the next team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
