Quarterback throws for 796 yards, 9 TDs, Loses

Mendocino College quarterback Trevor Taylor threw for 796 yards and 9 touchdowns in their game against The College of the Redwoods… and lost.  Taylor completed 38 of 52 passes for 796 yards in the loss in Ukiah, California.  The score of the game was 66-63 and the game was decided on a touchdown pass that was completed with 5 seconds to go in the game by Will Hissong.  For his part, Hissong went 39 for 54 for 573 yards and 5 touchdowns which was topped off by the 6 yard touchdown pass to Caleb Lomboy-Chavez that led them to the win.

The record for passing yards in an NCAA game is 731 yards which of course, as everyone knows is held by Zamir Amin of Menlo College of California.  The feat was accomplished in 2000 on the D-III when Amin faced off against Cal Lutheran.

The more well-known record is the FBS mark of 716 yards which is held by Houston quarterback David Klinger and has stood since 1990.  Klingler threw for 716 yards in that one game and went on to throw for 3,880 yards in his career with the Cincinnati Bengals  in 31 games at an average of about 125 yards per contest.
