Everyone’s pre-game ritual is different and some traditions or superstitions are mind-boggling and hard to understand. Especially when you come across someone from a different country. While on NBA Open Court, Steve Kerr said his pre-game meal was basic, just pasta and chicken.
Kerr did feel compelled to share a story about a teammate, that was both eye opening and hilarious. We’re so glad that Kerr decided to share this story.
Toni Kukoc had just arrived in America and was heading into his first NBA season. Kerr extended an invitation to grab a bite to eat before the game, he speculates that it is around three in the afternoon, just four hours before tip off. Kukoc goes on to order a huge meal and Kerr can’t seem to fathom it.
The feast includes a salad, appetizer, a “huge plate of pasta,” chicken, glass of red wine, a tiramisu for dessert and an espresso. Kerr asks him is this is his pre-game meal, and gets quite the explanation.
“In Europe, we eat a lot, we drink a little wine, we have espresso, we go back to hotel and take big s*** and go play basketball.”
