The TCU Horned Frogs have listed quarterback Casey Pachall as “doubtful” for Saturday’s game against the Texas Longhorns, but haven’t completely ruled Pachall out yet.
Pachall broke his arm in three different places during a September 7th 38-17 victory over Southeastern Louisiana and hasn’t played since.
Sophomore Trevone Boykin has filled in for Pachall, a senior, and has struggled. Boykin has completed 100 of 170 passes for 1,152 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s rushed for 293 yards and three touchdowns on 86 carries.
Not only are the numbers bad, but the Horned Frogs are just 2-3 without Pachall and their wins came over the Southern Methodist Mustangs and the Kansas Jayhawks.
Pachall is just 17-of-30 for 175 yards and an interception this season, but has thrown for 4,122 yards and 36 touchdowns with just nine interceptions in his career.
As John Taylor of College Football Talk points out, a late week visit to the doctor ended Pachall’s chances of playing in a 24-10 loss to the Oklahoma City Cowboys last week and the same could happen this week.
The Longhorns and Cowboys will kickoff at 7:30 pm EST Saturday night and the game will be on Fox Sports 1.
Even with Pachall likely out for the game, the Horned Frogs are favored.
